Kitchen Electrician Rotherham
NAPIT-registered, Part P compliant kitchen electrical installations across Rotherham and South Yorkshire. Safe, certified work you can trust.
The kitchen is the most electrically demanding room in any home. No other room comes close â more circuits, more appliances, and more raw power consumption than anywhere else under your roof. From cookers pulling 10kW to fridges running around the clock, your kitchen electrics need to be properly designed, safely installed, and fully up to code.
At MP Electrical, we specialise in kitchen electrical work across Rotherham and South Yorkshire. Whether you are fitting a brand-new kitchen, upgrading tired electrics in a 1960s semi, or simply need extra sockets because you have run out of plug space, we handle it all. Every job is completed to BS 7671 wiring regulations, certified through NAPIT, and backed by the paperwork your building control needs.

What Does Kitchen Electrical Work Involve?
Kitchen electrics are more complex than most people realise. A modern kitchen typically needs multiple dedicated circuits and careful planning to keep everything safe and functional:
- Dedicated cooker circuits â electric ovens and range cookers need their own 32A or 45A circuit run directly back to the consumer unit
- Hob connections â induction hobs draw serious power and must be wired on a suitably rated dedicated circuit
- Island sockets â floor-fed power supplies for kitchen islands, planned before the screed or flooring goes down
- Under-cabinet LED lighting â hardwired LED strips or puck lights that transform your workspace and eliminate shadows on worktops
- Extractor fan and cooker hood wiring â switched fused spurs for cooker hoods, ceiling extractors, and downdraft units
- Additional sockets â because there are never enough sockets in a kitchen. We position them exactly where you will actually use them
- USB charging sockets â built-in USB-A and USB-C ports so you can charge devices without losing a plug socket
- Outdoor-rated sockets â for bifold and patio door areas where indoor and outdoor living meet
- Consumer unit upgrades â older fuse boards often cannot accommodate the additional circuits a modern kitchen demands
Kitchen Rewires in South Yorkshire Homes
Across Rotherham, Sheffield, and Barnsley, thousands of homes built between the 1930s and 1970s still have kitchens running on original ring mains. These circuits were designed for a kettle, a toaster, and maybe a washing machine â not the twelve or more appliances a modern kitchen relies on daily. Overloaded ring mains are one of the most common electrical issues we find in South Yorkshire terraces, semis, and council-built properties.
A kitchen rewire replaces ageing cables (often rubber or lead-sheathed in older properties) with modern twin-and-earth wiring, adds dedicated circuits where they are needed, and brings everything up to current regulations. If your kitchen has round-pin sockets, a wooden back board with rewirable fuses, or black rubber cables behind the units, it is well overdue for an upgrade.
New Kitchen Fit-Out Process
If you are having a new kitchen installed, the electrical work needs to happen in two stages, carefully coordinated with your kitchen fitter and plumber:
First fix â before the kitchen units go in. We run all new cables, install back boxes for sockets and switches, wire in dedicated circuits for your cooker, hob, and any other high-power appliances, and fit any floor-fed supplies for islands. This is also when we route cables for under-cabinet lighting and extractor fans.
Second fix â after the units and worktops are fitted. We return to fit socket fronts, connect appliances, install lighting, and wire in the cooker hood. Everything is tested, certified, and signed off.
We are happy to work alongside your kitchen fitter and plumber to get the timing right. Mat will coordinate directly with your other trades so there are no delays and no crossed wires â literally.
